This extraordinary and brand-new interactive museum invites you to explore the history of the Olympic Games and the men and women who
have been a part of this incredible adventure. The permanent exhibition is spread over 3 levels with more than 1,000 objects and 150 screens.
Lavaux vineyards, UNESCO World Heritage
The terraced vineyards of Lavaux site unfold above Lake Geneva for some 14 kilometres, forming a real link between Lausanne and Vevey-Montreux. Not only does the listed status of Lavaux as a UNESCO World Heritage site pay tribute to an age-old vineyard, it is also a living “cultural landscape”, a remarkable testimony to an authentic and dynamic civilisation.
Opéra de Lausanne
Since its renovation in 2012, the Opéra de Lausanne has equipped its stage with the most advanced technologies, and offers a diversified choice of operas, concerts and ballets each season, showcasing a repertoire that spans from the 17th to the 21st centuries, from Monteverdi to Levinas. This diversity, as well as the artistic and vocal level of its international singers, ensures a dynamism and recognition that confirms the Opéra de Lausanne’s renown, and is reinforced by the rebroadcasts and diffusion of its productions, which are often acclaimed.
Lac Léman
The largest freshwater lake in Europe – and certainly the most romantic, having inspired countless artists – captivates the eye. Lending itself as much to barbecues on the beach as dinners on board the steamships that crisscross its waters, it offers every possible aquatic pleasure: sailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, pedalos.
Fondation l’Hermitage
The Fondation de l’Hermitage in Lausanne is a showcase of Swiss and international artists of our time. Known throughout the world, the collection is housed in a beautiful mansion in its own grounds overlooking the city.
Presenting important exhibitions in an exceptional setting, the Fondation de l’Hermitage is one of Lausanne’s most prized cultural attractions. Situated on the hills overlooking the city, the museum is housed in a beautiful 19th century manor, set in its own grounds with a view over the old city, Lake Geneva and the Alps.
With two to three exhibitions a year presenting works of an international scale, impressionist painters and sculptors like Degas and Gauguin are often featured at the Hermitage. On a more intimate scale, there is an extensive permanent collection of Chinese porcelain in the basement of the museum.
For an all-round enjoyable experience, the Fondation de l’Hermitage regularly organises cultural and gourmet events in the restaurant adjacent to the museum.
SwissTech Convention Center
Since April 2014, the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) has opened the SwissTech Convention Center, new ultramodern venue that is adaptable even in its smallest details, and particularly suitable for housing conferences, exhibitions and symposia of international scope.
